I also love iridescent glass. I love the way it changes its colour as you cut along it. For this piece, I cut a clear circle and then a slightly smaller circle using the iridescent. I then cut this up into curved sections. I wasn’t sure what I was hoping to achieve, another stylised flower maybe! After placing the iridescent pieces around the clear glass I realised it was so colourful, with its golds, reds and purply blues, it reminded me of the rays of the sun. When I have some quite time, I often cut up small bits of glass and fire them to create ‘cabochons’. Looking at the piece, I thought it needed something in the centre, so I put in some orangy cabochons I had already made. These made me think of the hot core of the sun, which creates the brilliant rays. I love this piece. It’s so bright and happy and will bring sunshine into the home.
