Escape 5* Boutique B&B, Llandudno

Escape B&B, Llandudno

The Escape Boutique B&B is set in the picturesque seaside town of Llandudno, on the north coast of Wales, with it's elegant Edwardian architecture. Never having visited this part of Wales before, my partner and I were keen to explore the coastal towns along this beautiful part of Wales, and also indulge in some luxury, in terms of the places we stayed at. Wales now boasts a number of 4 and 5 star boutique B&Bs, which offer a less stuffy and formal option for those who wish to travel in style, desiring a more relaxed feel to their stay. A quick search of 'luxury B&Bs in Wales' and the link to the Escape boutique B&B appeared.

True to its desire to be individualistic, the Escape boutique - described on it's website as '… Llandudno's first contemporary boutique bed & breakfast hotel' - seems to revel in its attention to detail. The hotel itself is a grand white villa just set back from the main streets of Llandudno, with off-street parking to the front and a sprawling terrace wraps itself around the outside of the property. On entering the building you cannot help but be impressed by the glamorous and beautifully restored sweeping staircase leading to the individually designed bedrooms on the first and second floors. Leading from the hallway, is a beautifully restored sitting room (with a wonderfully grand carved wooden fireplace).

Further on is the breakfast room, which has beautiful stained glass panels in the doors, and again, stunning beautifully restored architraves and many original features: such as polished wooden floors and sash windows.

We were greeted by the one of Escape's friendly owners, Sam, who was very knowledgeable of the area. He took the time to advise us of the best places to eat and to visit (we did not have our evening meals or lunch at the hotel, breakfast only). Sam was the epitome of the hotel's contemporary and trendy vibe, regaling us with tales of his management of a rock band and the famous faces (many of whom work in the music industry) who have stayed at the hotel. Trendy certainly is the word here, but there is also a real desire to please and to offer the client a glamorous and luxurious stay.

The owners have taken great trouble in bringing a sense of individuality and sense of theme to each room, providing a wide choice of individually designed rooms. We had wanted to stay in room 'Room 1' which is described by the boutique owners as 'Contemporary Eclectic' but as this room had already been booked, we opted for the equally beautiful 'Room 3' described as 'Contemporary Deco'.

One of the main benefits of staying in Room 3 is the stunning copper, free-standing bath, which is in the middle of the room (not the bathroom). This afforded me the unusual experience of watching television whilst having a bath (only a small thing I know, but a wonderful experience nonetheless).

The rooms are generous, even the smaller ones, and are very clean. The furnishings have all been hand-picked and emphasise the character and style of each room. For this, the owners/designers should be highly recommended, as the pieces seemed of good quality; often lacking in themed rooms in hotels … Our only criticism was that when we brought to the owner's attention that one of the bathroom towels was damaged (as we were concerned the hotel owners may have thought we had damaged it ourselves), this was not replaced during the two days we were there - but this is a small criticism, for what was a lovely stay.

The breakfasts we were served were tasty and generous. And the lovely breakfast room was a delight to sit in - the early morning sunlight poured through stained glass window panels, while we sipped our orange juice and planned the day ahead.
