Editors' Note: Edition 2 (April 06, 2009)
Welcome back to cylchgrawn Cymru Culture magazine.
In
this edition we have interviews with two artists, working in
different mediums, who are gaining reputations for their work in
Wales. Firstly, we talk with ceramicist Christine
Gittins,
whose work is simply beautiful. Christine has been exhibiting her
beautifully finished pots in Wales and internationally, since setting
up her studio here in 1994. Christine tells us about her influences and
talks us through the production process.

Our
second interview is with lettering artist Elizabeth Forrest,
whose pieces combine the delicate beauty of the medium she has chosen
– handmade paper, wood, textiles etc. - with thought provoking
poetry or quotations. Her work has an amazing effect. Often amusing, at times the pathos is quite moving, but it always makes you stop
and think. Elizabeth shares her inspiration for some of her work with
us, and tells us how she learned her craft.

In our design and fashion interview this month we talk with bespoke
milliner Catherine
Povey. Catherine took time out from running her businesses -
Catherine
Povey Millinery and Pebbles Hat Hire
– to talk to us about her passion for hats
and her plans for the future.

Still
with fashion, Wenda
James-Rowe
from The Style Team shares her thoughts with us on the key fashion trends for Summer 2009.

Ever
spent shed loads of money on a bottle of wine for a special occasion,
only to wish you'd chosen a pint of S.A., or a Brecon gin and tonic instead?
We have. Wine merchant Richard
Ballantyne tells
us he has discovered a Champagne producer who has 'reignited
my passion for this wine and the region'.
Ballantyne's
Wines, based in Pontcanna, has been described as '… far and away
the best wine merchant in Wales' (Which Wine Guide 2005) - so, praise indeed.
